Music CD

The first Organ in the collegiate church dates back to the beginning of the 16^th. century. After two centuries of use, in 1825, the Italian Mentasti, a member of an illustrious family of Lombardic organ builders, had to be called. Mentasti changed its composition by introducing its Italian touch. The end of the XIX ^th. was to be catastrophic for the instrument as clumsy interventions of various tuners took place. It was not until 1962 that Ph. Hartmann restored the functions of the organ. By 1981/82 Jean Deloye and Alain Sals totally restored the instrument so that today its original harmony can be heard again.

Gérard Goudet was born in 1946 in Marseille. As early as thirteen years of age he plays at the keyboard of the organ of Saint Calixte with which his father is entrusted. In the course of his profound musical training he was enthusiastic about everything related to organ playing: accompaniment, interpretation, improvisation. He became a recognized and well-known organist and concert musician. Gérard Goudet devoted himself particularly to the recording of the present CD. The historical organ of Isle sur la Sorgue is a fascinating instrument and only one single vinyl recording was made before its restoration by Michel Chapuis in 1962.
